Helium is a company that was founded in 2013 by Shawn Fanning, Amir Haleem & Sean Carey. Shawn Fanning was the co-founder of Napster in the early 90s. Napster was one of the first peer-to-peer sharing networks where users could download music from other users who were part of the network.
The founders at Helium have set out to create the next internet of things (IoT), which involves the wireless connection, communication and interactivity of devices across a network. This is achieved by the setup of different hotspots throughout a region, that allows these devices to communicate and share important data.
This is essentially helping to build out the world’s largest and most cost effective peer-to-peer sharing network. Currently Helium has approximately 126,000+ hotspots deployed, and that number is continuing to grow each month.
